Q. Culinary school trained or self-taught?
A. I went to Le Cordon Bleu, Pasadena. However, many tricks of the trade have come self-taught. They don’t teach authentic Asian cuisine at school!
Q. What is your favorite food from your childhood?
A. Japanese curry on white rice was my favorite, and still one of my favorites. Can’t beat the next day re-boil.
Q. What dish would you recommend to someone that has never eaten at Sura Korean BBQ & Tofu House?
A. Galbi Angus Short Ribs… because they are DELICIOUS. Home-made marinade combined with the best quality short ribs available is just amazing.
Q. Five things you can’t live without in the kitchen?
A. It’s hard to say five things besides salt. Because I can adapt!
Q. Ultimate fantasy meal – what, where and with who (living or dead)?
A. Sukiyabashi Jiro with my mom. Remember from Jiro dreams of sushi?
Q. Fun fact about yourself?
A. I have cooked many types of cuisine as part of my past training. Right now, I have been become really well versed in Korean cooking of course. In particular I love Asian pickling methods.
Q. Something in your fridge or freezer that would surprise people?
A. Preserved lemons. I did them myself, but do not know what to use them for.
Q. What are your guilty pleasures?
A. Cigarettes. And video games.
Q. What do you like to do outside of work?
A. I am big gamer. I play lots of World of Warcraft, Diablo III, and Blizzard games in general.
Q. What’s on your Bucket List?
A. Jump off a helicopter, into an avalanche on my snowboard, and… life would be complete.
